Is MYOB an Australian product?

MYOB is no longer an Australian software product with Manhattan Software winning in its bid to purchase the MYOB company.  While Manhattan is partially owned by an Australian fund, the majority of shares are US owned from what I understand.  Australian software companies competing with MYOB now have another reason they can give for their software over MYOB.  Small businesses, in particular understand the importance of buying Australia.

It’s an interesting point, but I think that people aren’t buying milk and cheese so they would rather choose software on price, functionality and fit as a priority rather than Australian made. When it comes to consumer goods and groceries, Australian made has more weight, so in my view this is irrelevant and would be to my purchasing decisions for software.

Evan,

From the point of view of someone in the supermarket industry, promoting a product as “Australian Made” has less weight with consumers than the media portray. A lot of hype is made about it, but when it comes to the crunch, consumers generally choose products based on two things, price and perceived quality.

I would agree that who owns software will be of little concern to potential purchasers. The most influential criteria when it comes to software are, as you say, functionality and fit.
